Vignanello is a charming medieval town perched on a tufa hill in the Cimini Mountains. The town is dominated by the magnificent Castello Ruspoli, a Renaissance fortress with one of Italy's most beautiful and best-preserved formal Italian gardens.

The castle was built in the 16th century by Ottavia Orsini, niece of Pope Gregory XIII, and later passed to the Ruspoli family through marriage. The perfectly symmetrical garden, designed in 1611, features elaborate box hedges arranged in geometric patterns forming 12 parterres, symbolizing the months of the year. These intricate designs are best viewed from the castle's windows above.

The historic center of Vignanello preserves its medieval character with narrow winding streets, stone houses, and small squares. The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria della Presentazione, with its impressive bell tower, is another notable monument.

Vignanello is also known for its wine production, particularly the DOC Vignanello white wine made from local grape varieties. The volcanic soil of the region creates ideal conditions for viticulture, and the town celebrates its wine heritage with the annual "Festa del Vino" in October.

The surrounding countryside offers beautiful landscapes of vineyards, olive groves, and chestnut forests, with panoramic views of the Tiber Valley. Il castello fu costruito nel XVI secolo da Ottavia Orsini, nipote di papa Gregorio XIII, e passò poi ai Ruspoli per matrimonio. Il giardino, perfettamente simmetrico e disegnato nel 1611, presenta elaborate siepi di bosso in motivi geometrici che formano 12 parterre, a simboleggiare i mesi dell'anno: si ammirano al meglio dalle finestre del castello.

Il centro storico di Vignanello conserva il carattere medievale con vicoli tortuosi, case in pietra e piazzette. La Collegiata di Santa Maria della Presentazione, con l'imponente campanile, è un altro monumento di rilievo.

Vignanello è nota anche per la produzione vinicola, in particolare il bianco DOC Vignanello da vitigni locali. Il suolo vulcanico crea condizioni ideali per la viticoltura e il paese celebra il vino con la «Festa del Vino» di ottobre.

La campagna circostante offre paesaggi di vigneti, uliveti e castagneti, con viste panoramiche sulla Valle del Tevere. Pur con notevoli attrattive storiche e culturali, Vignanello resta poco toccata dal turismo di massa, offrendo un'esperienza autentica della vita rurale italiana.

Am besten sieht man sie von den Fenstern der Burg.

Der historische Kern von Vignanello bewahrt seinen mittelalterlichen Charakter mit verwinkelten Gassen, Steinhäusern und kleinen Plätzen. Die Stiftskirche Santa Maria della Presentazione mit ihrem mächtigen Glockenturm ist ein weiteres bedeutendes Bauwerk.

Vignanello ist auch für seinen Weinbau bekannt, besonders den Weißwein DOC Vignanello aus lokalen Reben. Der vulkanische Boden schafft ideale Bedingungen, und der Ort feiert seinen Wein jeden Oktober beim „Festa del Vino“.

Das Umland bietet Landschaften aus Weinbergen, Olivenhainen und Kastanienwäldern mit Panoramablicken auf das Tibertal. Trotz bedeutender Sehenswürdigkeiten bleibt Vignanello vom Massentourismus weitgehend unentdeckt – ein authentisches Erlebnis ländlichen italienischen Lebens.
